Newcastle Jets Youth and Under 20’s Teams continue their season when they take on Hawkesbury City FC on Sunday night.
Both sides are coming off the back of two wins on Thursday night. The Jets Under 20’s defeated Camden Tigers 2-1 while the Youth Team ran out 6-2 winners.
Both sides are back in action on Sunday night when they take on Hawkesbury City FC at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility.
Jets Youth Team Coach Riccardo Marchioli is looking forward to Sunday’s match.
“Still a work in progress. it’s about adding layers in each session every single day so that we can get closer to the way we want to play football at the Newcastle Jets and we’ve seen flashes where we were able to sustain that type of football. We’ve also dropped the average age of both teams in order to expose some of our talented younger local players to a first grade competition where they are challenged physically, mentally and in many other ways each week.”
“The main message has been to play with bravery. Bravery means playing in areas where other teams wouldn’t, being confident in the ability we have got and in the way that the Newcastle Jets want to play football. That means being proactive, not being conservative in terms of both positioning and how we construct the attack together. Hawkesbury are on top of the table and there’s always an eye on that but for us our main focus is ensuring the progression of each individual player within that competitive team setting and the main message for the last few weeks is recognising the ability and the weapons that we do have, having the courage to play the football that we want to play – and giving the football community of Newcastle more exciting young players to look forward to.”
The Newcastle Jets Under 20’s kick off against Hawkesbury City at 5.30pm on Sunday afternoon which will be followed on by the Youth Team kicking off at 7.30pm. Both matches will be played at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Centre. Jets Members and fans are encouraged to come down and support.
The Jet’s U13’s, U14’s, U15’s, U16’s and U18’s matches against Bonnyrigg have been rescheduled due to this weekend’s expected rain.
In the NPL Women’s Competition, the Emerging Jets reserve grade side face Sydney University at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Centre at 1.25pm which will be followed by the Emerging Jets First Grade match against the same opposition at 3.25pm.
