The Jets take a point home from Perth in a thrilling 2-2 draw, with sensational goals from Reno Piscopo and Archie Goodwin. The hot and testing conditions causing a high-intensity match between the two sides.
Newcastle came out firing with multiple attacking opportunities, dominating the attack from the beginning of the match.
Perth Glory were awarded a penalty in the 28th minute after a foul on Keegan Jelacic by Daniel Stynes inside the box. David Williams took the spot kick towards the left side which found Jack Duncan who pulled out a fantastic save to deny the penalty.
The match continued to become intense with both teams eager to score, causing some fiery moments between the two sides.
Perth took the lead in the 44th minute off a corner that floated towards the back post to find Glory’s Luke Bodnar who chipped it behind Duncan.
The attacking opportunities continued for the Jets coming into the second half, with a chance from Jason Hoffman who is denied by Perth’s goalkeeper Cameron Cook.
Newcastle then found the back the net with a cracking goal from Reno Piscopo. His shot from outside of the box was fired into the top right corner to draw the Jets level.
With the hot weather conditions forcing drinks breaks throughout the game, the intensity was slowing down, but the chances continued.
Perth took the lead in the 79th minute from a floating ball into Mark Beevers who found air to chip it past Duncan.
Newcastle were quick to follow suit with Archie Goodwin making his way off the bench and onto the scoresheet, scoring for a second game in a row. With a cross from Trent Buhagiar who found Goodwin in front of goals who heads it in for the equaliser in the 88th minute.
With nine minutes of injury time added, both sides were wanting to score. The Jets were awarded a free kick just metres outside the box in the dying minutes of the match but were unable to convert. Both teams took a point away with the 2-2 draw.
Arthur Papas’ side will return home at McDonald Jones Stadium next Sunday to take on Melbourne Victory.
