Match Report: Jets smash Brisbane in emphatic style

Friday night football saw Newcastle secure a whopping 4-0 win over Brisbane Roar in front of thrilled home support. Goals from Jaushua Sotirio, Trent Buhagiar, Beka Mikeltadze, and Archie Goodwin secured the three points.

The match began with both sides looking for attacking opportunities, with the Jets creating more of the chances in the final third after controlling large amounts of possession.

Angus Thurgate created a chance in the 23rd minute with a long-range shot, that just found Brisbane’s goalkeeper Jordan Holmes, forcing the keeper into a save.

As the first half continued both sides were unable to convert any chances in the first half, keeping the score line level at the interval.

Newcastle came out firing in the second half, taking advantage of their attacking opportunities.

The Jets took the lead when Reno Piscopo had an amazing run and put a through ball into Jaushua Sotirio who smashed the ball into the back of the net past Holmes.

Newcastle continued to utilise their chances and produce quality football to double their lead. Trent Buhagiar saw a counterattack in the 72nd minute and found himself one on one with Holmes, to knock it past him and into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Just four minutes later Beka Mikeltadze sealed the lead with a wicked long-range shot that bounced off the crossbar and into the back of the net.

The home side continued the game with quality chances, and in the final minutes of the match, took the lead to 4-0. Newcastle’s own Archie Goodwin got his name on the scoresheet by smashing it past Holmes, with an assist from Jaushua Sotirio.

Newcastle travel west to Perth next Saturday night to take on the Glory at 10:30 pm.
