Match Report: Jets rue chances in Brisbane loss

The Newcastle Jets have suffered a 3-0 loss away from home to Brisbane Roar at Kayo Stadium in Moreton Bay.

The match started in frantic fashion as the Roar had an early chance when Henry Hore flashed a shot past Michael Weier’s left post.

The Jets settled into the contest and Angus Thurgate was given space to fire a shot at Brisbane’s goal.

The home side had the first clear chance when Jay O’Shea fired a free-kick on the edge of the box which was blocked in the 27th minute.

The home side opened the scoring when Henry Hore cut inside from the left to glance his shot past Michael Weier and put Brisbane Roar into the lead heading into the break.

The Jets started the match brightly in the second half but the home side continued to put the pressure on.

The home side doubled their lead when Brisbane were awarded a penalty kick after VAR ruled Angus Thurgate to have fouled Henry Hore in the box.

Jay O’Shea stepped up in the 70th minute to tuck away the spot kick.

The Jets pushed for a goal back and Jaushua Sotirio tested Roar keeper Holmes from long range with a stinging effort.

The home side rounded out the win in stoppage time when Serbian striker Stefan Šćepović timed his run into the box and scuffle his shot on the ground into the back of the net.

The Newcastle Jets now return home to McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday night to face Macarthur FC.
