ALW Match Report: Jets endure tough afternoon in Melbourne

The home side got off to the perfect start when midfielder Rachel Lowe made a run into the box to tuck the ball away and give Victory an early 1-0 lead.

The Jets almost hit back instantly when Lara Gooch cut inside from the left to have her shot tipped over the crossbar by Victory goalkeeper Lydia Williams.

Melbourne looked to extend their lead in the 33rd minute when a well-placed shot by Kurea Okino was palmed away by Jets goalkeeper Izzy Nino.

The second half started brightly for the Jets as they looked to find a way back into the match.

The home side doubled their lead in the 65th minute when the ball found its way to Rachel Lowe on the edge of the box who placed her shot into the bottom corner of Nino’s goal.

The Victory made it 3-0 almost two minutes later when a well timed ball in behind the Jets defence found Ella O’Grady who made no mistake one-on-one with Nino.

The Jets suffered an unlucky own goal late on when Alana Murphy’s cross took a wicked deflection from Rebecca Burrows to find it’s way into the Jets goal and seal a 4-0 win for the Victorian side.
