ALW Match Report: Golden Bolden as Jets down Roar in Maitland

A stunning hat-trick from striker Sarina Bolden was enough for the Newcastle Jets to see off Brisbane Roar 3-0 at Maitland Sportsground this afternoon.

After a cagey first half the Jets finally broke the deadlock in the 39th minute when a delightful corner in from midfielder Libby Copus-Brown was met by Bolden who guided her header in off the post to give the Jets a 1-0 lead at half time.

Bolden almost had her second at the start of the second half after Lauren Allan picked out the striker on the edge of the box but her shot was tipped behind for a corner by Roar goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz.

Bolden eventually had her second in the 76th minute when a beautiful ball in behind the Roar’s defence from Lorena Baumann found the striker who made no mistake one-on-one.

The Philippines’ international had her hat trick only moments later when she held off a determined Ayesha Norrie to slot her shot past Silkowitz to send the Maitland crowd into delirium.

Brisbane almost found a consolation when they hit the crossbar in the 90th minute but the Jets defence held firm to collect the three points and a clean sheet.

The Jets will now have a week off due to the international break before returning to Maitland Sportsground on the 3rd March to face Perth Glory.
