ALW Match Report: Bolden bags brace on debut as Jets win in Canberra

The Jets got off to a shaky start as Canberra striker Michelle Heyman was played in behind the defence who kept her compure to slot past goalkeeper Izzy Nino and put the home side 1-0 up in the 1st minute.

The celebrations were short lived however as the Jets Philippines international striker Sarina Bolden was gifted with time and space inside Canberra’s 18-yard box. On debut, the striker lashed the ball home and make it 1-1 in the 5th minute.

The Jets doubled their lead when a quick free-kick was taken by midfielder Cassidy Davis who found Emily van Egmond in the box to chip the Canberra goalkeeper and make it 2-1 in the 13th minute.

Davis almost found herself on the scoresheet just before the break when she fired from range which saw her shot just skim the crossbar in the 40th minute.

Gary van Egmond’s side continued to push for more goals however the home side struck level when a well taken free-kick found the back of the net from Canberra midfielder Vesna Milivojević in the 58th minute.

The Jets were not to be thwarted and re-gained the advantage when Bolden grabbed her second goal from close range in the 61st minute to make it 3-2.

As the hosts tried to draw level they came unstuck on the counter when Lauren Allan found space down the right to lash the ball into the top corner past a helpless Lincoln.

Canberra did manage to find a consolation goal as Milivojević grabbed her second of the game but it wasn’t enough as Gary van Egmond’s side secured their second win of the season.

The Jets now head into the international break before returning home to face Sydney FC at No.2 Sportsground on December 10.
