ALW Match Preview Newcastle Jets v Western United 

The Newcastle Jets will face off against ladder leaders Western United in Wednesday’s midweek match in Ballarat, kicking off at 5:30pm. 

The Jets’ previous match resulted in a 3-0 loss to Canberra at home, with the three goals scored within a seven-minute window, to ensure Canberra took the three points home. 

Western United is currently sitting on top of the table on 27 points, with nine wins and two losses so far. Proving to dominate the league in their first ever A-leagues season. 

Western United’s previous match resulted in a 3-1 loss against Perth Glory, their second loss this season. The side was undefeated for seven rounds, losing this run against Western Sydney Wanderers who defeated them 2-1.

Newcastle is currently sitting tenth on the table with seven points, with 20 points the difference between the two sides. 

The Jets will be looking to cause an upset for Western United in tonight’s match and take the three points home, earning a well-needed win. Newcastle is sitting on two wins, one draw, and eight losses, with five losses in their previous six matches.  

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides, with United joining this 2022/2023 season. 

Western United’s forward Hannah Keane is currently the league’s top goal scorer, sitting on nine goals in just 11 games. She will be strong in attack for her side, proving to be a force for the Jets’ defence.

United have conceded ten goals so far this season, with goalkeeper Hillary Beall as the force field for her side.

Newcastle’s Lauren Allan has created a variety of attacking opportunities for her side with one assist and three goals this season. She will be looking to add more goals to her name in tonight’s match.
