Apostolos Stamatelopoulos has scored his fourth goal in as many games to give Rob Stanton and his side their first win of the season.
After a quiet first ten minutes, Western United almost took the lead when former Jet Daniel Penha rattled the crossbar with a shot from just outside the box in the 11th minute.
The Jets were next to have the first real chance when in the 23rd minute, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos found Lachlan Bayliss on the edge of the box who saw his shot just wide of the goal.
In the 36th minute Western United were given a chance to open the scoring when Noah Botic found space in the box only to have his shot blocked by Mark Natta which was palmed away for a corner from Ryan Scott who did well to keep the ball from going in.
The home side looked to have taken the lead when Penha had his shot ricochet in off the post and into the goal, only for it to be chalked off after VAR intervened and ruled that the ball had gone out in the build-up.
Rob Stanton’s Jets took the lead in the 44th minute when Lucas Mauragis burst down the left side to put in a cross for Trent Buhagiar at the back post who saw his header hit the crossbar. The ball fell to Apostolos Stamatelopoulos who scored his fourth goal in as many games to put the Jets 1-0 ahead at the break.
The Jets started the second half brightly when Clayton Taylor found space down the left. His shot was well saved from Western United goalkeeper Thomas Heward-Belle to prevent his side from going 2-0 down.
The match sparked controversy in the 70th minute when Clayton Taylor looked to have been brought down in the box by Josh Risdon. VAR had a look but the referee ruled a foul in the build-up.
Western United substitute Nikita Rukavytsya managed to find the back of the net with a well-placed header in the 87th minute however the linesman ruled the striker offside.
The Jets held firm in defence to see out the result 1-0.
