ALM Match Report: Jets snatch late draw against Glory

A stoppage-time header from striker Apostolos Stamatelopoulos has snatched a draw for the Jets in Rob Stanton’s first A-League match as coach.

The Jets got off to a horror start when a cross into the box was tucked away by former Jet Adam Taggart to give the home side the lead in the first minute.

The Jets soon settled into the match after a frantic start and a world-class strike from Kosta Grozos brought Rob Stanton’s side level.

In the 20th minute, Jets goalkeeper Ryan Scott was forced into a smart save when Perth Glory striker Daniel Bennie attempted an audacious chip.

The Jets continued to threaten and Trent Buhagiar fired a shot wide which gave the home side a brief scare.

Rob Stanton’s side continued to press the Glory and looked threatening down the left with Lucas Mauragis and Clayton Taylor linking up well.

The Jets started the second half and went behind 2-1 when Stefan Colakovski capitalised on a loose ball from the Jets backline to put the home side in front.

Ryan Scott was called upon twice in the space of minutes to first deny Oliver Bozanic from a long-range effort and then from Adam Taggart.

There was yet to be more late drama when the Jets persistence paid off when a free-kick into the 18-yard box was met by Apostolos Stamatelopoulos who snatched a draw for the Jets and make it 2-2 at full time.

Rob Stanton’s side now face an away trip to Melbourne Victory next Sunday at AAMI Park.
