ALM Match Report: Jets secure point away on the road

A late penalty scored by Macarthur’s Valère Germain has denied the Newcastle Jets three points on the road in Campbelltown in a 1-1 draw.

The Jets had the first chance of the match when a ball across goal was met by Newcastle attacking winger Clayton Taylor who had his shot on target blocked by a Macarthur defender.

The Jets soon opened the scoring and it was Taylor on hand at the back post to put away a first time volley from a lovely cross by Thomas Aquilina to put the Jets 1-0 up in the 8th minute.

Macarthur threatened to respond when midfielder Clayton Lewis was in played in behind the Jets goal only to be denied by a brilliant save from Jets goalkeeper Ryan Scott.

The Jets had another huge chance before the end of the first half when striker Trent Buhagiar forced a smart double save from Kurto.

The second half started in controvery when Ulises Dávila had the ball in the back of the net, only for VAR to intervene and rule for offside in the build-up.

The Bulls had another chance in the 60th minute when a header back across goal from former Jets captain Matthew Jurman who had his header deflected onto the crossbar by Lucas Mauragis.

As the Jets held firm, the match sparked into chaos in injury time when Macarthur were awarded a penalty for a foul on Lachlan Rose inside the box. Up stepped Valère Germain to fire down the middle and rescue a point for the home side.
