The Newcastle Jets have come from behind twice to draw 2-2 against the Macarthur Bulls at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Rob Stanton made two changes to the starting side which fell to Western United 2-1 the week before with Callum Timmins and Phillip Cancar both coming into the starting side.
The Jets almost had the perfect start when inside the first two minutes, the ball fell to Lucas Mauragis who saw his shot flash just wide of the Bulls goal.
Timmins was the next to test Macarthur’s resolve when his curling shot from the edge of the box had to be palmed away for a corner by Bulls goalkeeper Filip Kurto on the 18th minute mark.
The best chance of the half fell to Jets striker Apostolos Stamatelopoulos in the 45th minute who managed to get a header on Cancar’s long ball. The resulting effort was just wide of Kurto’s goal.
The visitors opened the scoring inside the 68th minute Ulises Dávila was given time and space on the edge of the area as he tucked his shot past Jets goalkeeper Ryan Scott to make it 1-0.
The Jets found an equaliser two minutes later when Daniel Wilmering found space down the left to find Archie Goodwin on the edge of the box to see his shot find the back of the net courtesy of the post.
The Bulls did find the lead in the 81st minute when Dávila found Valère Germain at the far post to squeeze his header in.
The second set-back didn’t deter the Jets and a quick-thinking throw from Goodwin found Mauragis who was brought down in the box.
Stamatelopoulos stepped up to convert the resulting spot-kick to and bring up his 14th goal of the season and rescue a point for the Jets.
