The Jets came out of the box flying and created plenty of chances in the first fifteen minutes. Stamatelopoulos narrowly missed the crossbar with a header while Trent Buhagiar forced Brisbane goalkeeper Macklin Freke.
The Jets did take the lead in the 18th minute when Apostolos Stamatelopoulos found space in the box after a brilliant cut-back from Daniel Stynes.
The Jets thought they had made it 2-0 when Trent Buhagiar was played through by Kosta Grozos to finish past Freke. After a brief VAR check, the goal was ruled out.
Moments later Brisbane were awarded a penalty when Grozos was adjudged to have brought down Berenguer. After another VAR check, no penalty was given after Grozos was ruled to have not fouled the Roar midfielder.
The second half started frantically when Stamatelopoulos found space to cut the ball back for Buhagiar who had his shot shave the crossbar.
Brisbane made it 1-1 on the hour mark when Jay O’Shea capped off a brilliant solo run to find the back of the net after a wicked deflection benefited the Roar captain.
It didn’t take long for the Jets to restore the lead when Phil Cancar was on hand to prod home and make it 2-1 after Freke failed to control Stamatelopoulos’s header.
Brisbane equalised in the 82nd minute when a scramble in the box was capitalised on by Jonas Markovski to make it 2-2.
The match ended in controversy when a long check from VAR resulted in a penalty been awarded to the Roar for a handball in the box by Jets defender Dane Ingham. Jay O’Shea stepped up to seal a 3-2 win for his side.
The Jets next find themselves in action next Friday night when they return to face Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium.
