ALM Match Preview: Newcastle Jets v Perth Glory

The Newcastle Jets return home again this weekend in Saturday’s afternoon clash against Perth Glory at McDonald Jones Stadium, kicking off at 5:00 pm. 

The Jets previous match saw a 2-4 loss to Adelaide United at home last weekend, with goals from Jason Hoffman and Angus Thurgate. 

Newcastle will be looking to snatch an all-important win against Glory on Saturday and return back to their winning ways.

The Jets are holding eighth position on the ladder with 24 points and are three points away from the top six, with just six rounds of scheduled matches left in the season.

Perth’s previous match saw a late 1-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers, in which Aaron McEneff scored for his side in the 90+6 minute to take the three points. 

Glory are currently sitting on 10th on the ladder, and one point behind the Jets. With six wins, five draws, and nine losses in their 20 matches played this season.

The previous clash between the two sides saw a thrilling 2-2 draw away in Perth, with goals from both Reno Piscopo and Archie Goodwin to help take a point back home. 

In the six previous matches between the two teams, the Jets have won two with four resulting in a draw. 

Saturday’s match will be a fiery one as both sides will look to steal a win and secure a crucial three points ahead of the

Archie Goodwin returns to Newcastle this week from international duties with the Socceroos. The striker has not been named in the squad for this week’s match as he recovers from a groin injury. 

Perth’s attacker David Williams has scored five goals in his 18 appearances for his side and will look to provide a key contest with the Jets backline as they look to bounce back following last weekend’s result against Adelaide which saw them concede four goals.

Angus Thurgate added his name to the scoresheet last week and has been clinical in the midfield for his side, he will hope to snatch another goal again this weekend.
