ALM Match Preview: Newcastle Jets v Macarthur FC

The Newcastle Jets travel to Campbelltown Stadium this Sunday to face off against Macarthur FC.

Newcastle will eagerly want a win after last week’s 2-0 loss against Sydney FC at home on New Year’s Day.

A win this weekend could bring the Jets up to fourth place on the ladder.

Macarthur are coming into the game with a loss against Western Sydney Wanderers last week where they went down 4-0. They are currently placed fifth on the ladder with 14 points.

Newcastle have played five games in the last three weeks, with now a break of seven days since their last game. Arthur Papas’ side has had some time to recover and prepare for Sunday’s game.

The last time these two sides met was in the 2021/2022 season in round 23 where the Jets won 3-0. Beka Mikeltadze put his name on the score sheet last time and will be looking to do the same again this Sunday. Mikeltadze’s goal total currently stands at two so far this season.

Macarthur’s Georgian striker Bachana Arabuli has been on form this season and appears to be a strong opponent for Jets defence. Newcastle’s centre back Mark Natta has proven to be a force for the defence in his 10 games this season. Arabuli and Natta will be a key matchup to watch this weekend.

Angus Thurgate continues to dominate in the midfield, looking to get his first goal of season this weekend. Pairing up with Beka Dartsmelia, the midfield duo will be firing on Sunday, hoping to see Newcastle hit the back of the net.

Should Jason Hoffman receive game time against Macarthur, he will move to 197 A-League appearances for the Newcastle Jets. The most of any player in the club’s history.

Fans can watch the game live on Paramount+ and 10 Bold, with kick off at 3pm.
